Applications are open for the Media Blend Hackathon 2024. This innovative event focuses on fostering synergy in journalism. The goal for this year is to empower media outlets to create resilient business models, enabling them to withstand challenges and pressures.

Taking place over three days in Sarajevo, the Media Blend gathers media professionals and innovators from all over Europe. Participants will explore various business models within the industry during this offline event.

The hackathon’s unique format ensures 72 hours of creative problem-solving, providing ample time for collaboration with experts and fellow media professionals to develop and refine project ideas.

Eligibility

Media Blend Hackathon welcomes media experts, managers, freelancers, and journalists from newsrooms and media startups across Europe. Individuals or teams are encouraged to apply if they:

  • Have a vision for a project idea they wish to develop and pitch.
  • Propose a project idea related to freedom of expression.
  • Can participate in a 3-hour online ideation session, a key part of the selection process.
  • Are available to travel to Sarajevo from May 19 to 21 (travel costs will be covered).

Eligible countries

Applicants and their organizations must be based in the following countries: Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Ukraine.
