The EurekAlert! Travel Awards for International Science Reporters are designed to promote and recognize excellence in science journalism on a global scale, with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries.

This program offers support in the form of travel funding and assistance to early-career science, technology, and health journalists so they can attend the AAAS Annual Meeting. This travel provides access to the latest research news, networking opportunities with other journalists, as well as a chance to share their experiences with peers from around the world.

Formerly known as the EurekAlert! Fellowships for International Science Reporters, these awards have been given to over 80 science journalists from diverse regions such as Africa, Central and South America, the Middle East, India, China, and the Balkans.

In 2004, the program commenced with the initial assistance of a grant provided by the William T. Golden Endowment Fund for Program Innovation. Presently, it receives sponsorship from EurekAlert!, an independent science news distribution platform managed by the nonprofit American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).


  • The winners of this opportunity will be provided with financial support for their travel expenses to attend the AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, in 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

  • This opportunity is available for aspiring science journalists in the following countries:
  • The Balkans: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia
  • Eastern Europe: Bulgaria, Czechia, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine
  • Applicants should have no more than five (5) years of experience as a professional science journalist, either as staff or freelancers.
  • It is required that applicants are able to obtain a visa and travel to an upcoming AAAS Annual Meeting within the next two (2) years.
  • Proficiency in English is highly recommended for successful participation in this opportunity.
