With funding from the Mastercard Foundation, the Wits Business School’s Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI) is now accepting applications for a doctoral fellowship on the topic of the non-profit sector’s contribution to African economies.

The purpose of the CAPSI Africa Fellowship is to give young African doctorate candidates enrolled in African universities, the chance to work on studies concerning nonprofit organizations and the economic benefits they bring to the continent. “The creation of dignified and fulfilling work for young Africans by the non-profit sector” is the study project’s specific aim.

CAPSI Africa Fellowship Program – Details

CAPSI Africa Fellowship project welcomes application from PhD African university students in the 17 eligible countries: Senegal, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Doctorate students will work on projects that pertain to non-profit organizations and how they support African economies; in particular, they will work on projects that centre on providing young Africans with meaningful and dignified work.

The study will be conducted by the selected applicants in close collaboration with senior scholars and Regional study Leads. The project will select fellows based on the marginalization of youth in the following categories: gender, disability, location, refugees and internally displaced people, etc.

Benefits of CAPSI Africa Fellowship

Twenty (20) full-time Ph.D. students who are selected for this programme will receive support for up to five years during their doctorate studies.

In addition, a fully funded fellowship, with a full scholarship of up to $30,000 annually, will be awarded to each fellow.

Eligiblity Requirements CAPSI Africa Fellowship Program 2024

To be eligible for the CAPSI Africa Fellowship Program 2024, applicants must:

  • Have a current full-time enrollment in an appropriate PhD programme at an African university, with an emphasis on subjects and research related to the project.
  • Be interested in researching how the nonprofit sector helps African youths find meaningful and fulfilling employment.
  • Show that you are dedicated to the programme and have the teamwork skills necessary to succeed.
  • Be able to take part in the programme for the full duration
  • Aged under 35 years
  • Enrolled in their first or second year of a PhD course.
  • Be citizens of any of the aforementioned nations and carry out studies on all or part of them.
