Every year, we honor the outstanding contributions of business professionals who are actively promoting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and embodying the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact. These exceptional individuals, known as SDG Pioneers, are instrumental in inspiring action and demonstrating the potential of businesses to foster a sustainable future for everyone.
Unites Nations Global Compact SDG Pioneers
In 2024, we are excited to begin another journey to select twelve SDG Pioneers from participating companies. These pioneers, regardless of their positions, are establishing ambitious SDG objectives, broadening their influence, and advocating for a principles-centered approach within their organizations.
Through a thorough selection process that includes both Local and Global Rounds, they will acknowledge individuals who showcase commitment, creativity, and leadership in advancing the SDGs. The UN Global Compact will recognize 12 Global SDG Pioneers across two award categories: Large National and Multinational companies, and SMEs. Moreover, the UN Global Compact will acknowledge Global SDG Pioneers in six categories representing the regions where they operate: Western Europe and North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Oceania.
Benefit
- The champion of the Local Round in each country will be awarded the prestigious title “2024 Global Compact Network [Country] SDG Pioneer.”
Eligibility Criteria
- For eligibility, candidates must be from UN Global Compact member companies that are classified as “Active.”
- Companies should have joined the UN Global Compact before October 1, 2023.
- To maintain Active status, companies need to submit their Communication on Progress (CoP) between April 1 and July 31 each year. Subsidiaries can join if their parent company fulfills this requirement.
- It is highly recommended for companies to submit their CoP by June 1, 2024, to prevent any delays in the Pioneers application process. If a report is not submitted by July 31, it will lead to disqualification from the Pioneers program.
- If there is a change in CoP status after being acknowledged as a Local and/or Global SDG Pioneer, it may lead to disqualification for the global SDG Pioneer title.
Application And Nomination Process
Employees at companies involved in the UN Global Compact are encouraged to share their personal stories about how they are contributing to sustainable development, or to nominate a co-worker for recognition in the SDG Pioneers program.
