The University of York GREAT Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic calendar, welcomes applications from eligible postgraduate students dreaming of studying in the United Kingdom. in collaboration with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, proudly presents the University of York GREAT Scholarship for Postgraduate Students 2024.

The University of York GREAT Scholarship is aimed at empowering outstanding students from around the globe to pursue their academic aspirations at one of the top-ranking universities in the UK.

The University of York GREAT Scholarship – Overview

The University of York GREAT Scholarship is a golden opportunity for up to five (5) international students from select countries to receive financial support for their one-year postgraduate studies in the UK.

This initiative, launched by the British Council in partnership with 72 esteemed UK universities, including the University of York, aims to foster educational excellence and cultural exchange on a global scale.

The selected countries include: Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Ghana, Greece, Kenya, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam

Successful applicants of the University of York GREAT Scholarship can receive financial support of up to £10,000 to assist with the costs of their postgraduate studies.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the University of York GREAT Scholarship, applicants must meet the eligibility requirements below:

Citizenship: The scholarship is available for students from China, Nigeria (Justice and Law), Pakistan, Thailand, and Turkey.
Fee Status: Applicants must be paying fees at the overseas fee rate.
Language Proficiency: Fulfill any language conditions of the offer by 20 May 2024.
Possess an offer to study a one-year postgraduate course at the University of York by the specified deadline.
Students from Nigeria are eligible to apply for the scholarship if they have received an offer to study one of the specified courses, including LLM Law, LLM Art Law, LLM International Corporate and Commercial Law, LLM International Human Rights Law and Practice, LLM Legal and Political Theory and MA Applied Human Rights

Ineligibility Criteria

Applicants will not be eligible for the scholarship under the following circumstances:

Holders of a 100 percent tuition fee scholarship or are fully sponsored.
Current students of the University of York, have commenced their studies in a previous academic year.
Enrolled in ineligible pathways or courses, including Hull York Medical School, International Pathway College, and part-time or distance/online learning courses or Masters courses lasting longer than one year.

Selection Process

The selection process is usually is competitive, and only a small number of applicants per country will be successful:

The University of York selects a panel consisting of senior staff from the University, who will select the successful scholarship awardees.
The outcome of all scholarship applications will be made known by 7 June 2024.
Once offered a scholarship, recipients must:
Formally accept the offer, following the link within their offer email
Then make the University of York their firm choice. Please note that these processes must be completed by the deadline provided in the offer email.
