Applications are currently open for the TRC Investigative Reporting Fellowship 2024. The Fellowship offers an opportunity for journalists to engage in high-quality investigative reporting in English.

The resulting work will be published by The Collective and made available for co-publication by regional newsrooms.

Fellowship details

  • Eligibility: Open to independent journalists with a minimum of two years of professional reporting experience.
  • Project Theme: Proposals are invited under the themes of India’s Political Economy, Environment and Climate Change, Technology and Digital Security, Governance and Accountability, and Public Health and Policies.

Grant details

The selected candidate will be awarded a grant of Rs. 80,000 for their investigative story, inclusive of any taxes. This grant does not cover travel costs incurred during reporting.

Upon approval, 20% of the grant will be disbursed immediately, followed by 40% upon submission of the draft, and the remaining amount upon the publication of the story.

Reporting-related travel or other expenses will be reimbursed along with the final payment upon submission of bills.

Who should apply

  • Independent journalists with a minimum of two years of professional reporting experience.
  • Journalists with ambitious investigative story proposals that require time and resources for execution.
  • The proposed story should have progressed beyond the initial reporting stages and be substantiated with documents to convince editors to greenlight the project.

  • Applicants are required to submit a tentative work plan outlining key milestones and deadlines for their investigative project.
