The Refugee Hub Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for refugees to not only enhance their professional development but also contribute significantly to solutions for displaced people on a global scale.

Overview of the uOttawa Refugee Hub Fellowship

The uOttawa Refugee Hub Fellowships aim to provide mentorship experience for refugee leaders. Through this program, participants will have the chance to engage with seasoned professionals, gain valuable skills, and expand their networks.

The ultimate goal is to empower these emerging leaders to influence and lead initiatives within the global refugee system and beyond.

Program Streams

Fellows in the program will have the option to choose between two distinct streams:

Global Pathways Stream: Participants will delve into global projects and workstreams focused on expanding pathways to protection for refugees and migrants worldwide.

Strategic Leadership Stream: This stream focuses on nonprofit leadership and social entrepreneurship. Offering fellows the opportunity to contribute to organizational development and strategies aimed at reforming the global system of safe and legal routes.

Benefits of the uOttawa Refugee Hub Fellowship

Participants in the uOttawa Refugee Hub Fellowship will receive a host of benefits designed to support their growth and development:

  • Dedicated Mentorship: Each fellow will be paired with a senior member of the Pathways International leadership team or an allied organization. Providing personalized guidance and support throughout the program.
  • Tailored Development Plan: Fellows will work with their mentors to create a development plan based on their unique interests. Skills, and experiences, ensuring a customized learning experience.
  • Financial Support: In addition to mentorship, fellows will receive a generous stipend of $20,000 along with $5,000 in professional development funds to support activities outlined in their development plan.

Fellowship Outcomes

By the conclusion of the program, fellows can expect to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Participants will gain a deep understanding of the global refugee protection system. Or social entrepreneurship and organizational development. Equipping them with the knowledge needed to drive meaningful change.
  • Advanced Leadership Skills: Through personalized mentorship, fellows will enhance their leadership abilities, empowering them to take on leadership roles within their communities and beyond.
  • Contributions to Pathways International: Fellows will actively contribute to the work of Pathways International, informing the organization’s mission to expand pathways to protection for refugees and migrants.
  • Global Networking Opportunities: Participants will gain access to Pathways International’s extensive global network, providing valuable connections and opportunities for collaboration.

Who Should Apply?

The uOttawa Refugee Hub Fellowship is open to individuals who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Lived Experience: Applicants must have experienced forced displacement firsthand.
  • Leadership Potential: Demonstrated leadership potential and a track record of active engagement in refugee-led organizations or related fields.
  • English Proficiency: Proficiency in English is required, with knowledge of other languages considered an asset.
