The Africa Transitional Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF) is excited to announce the opening of the Call for Proposals for the Initiative for Transitional Justice in Africa 2024 (ITJA).

This initiative, part of a collaborative effort between the European Union and the African Union, aims to support civil society organizations, community-based groups, and victim-led initiatives working towards advancing truth, justice, and reconciliation in post-conflict countries across Africa.

Launched in October 2023, ITJA focuses on the implementation of innovative transitional justice projects guided by the principles and provisions of the Africa Transitional Justice Policy Framework (AUTJP) and its accompanying roadmap.

Financial Support

Successful project proposals will receive a maximum of €50,000 to support the implementation of transitional justice initiatives aligned with the Africa Transitional Justice Policy Framework (AUTJP) and its roadmap.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • Registered civil society organization or community-based group in a priority African country in this call
  • Demonstrated experience in transitional justice, human rights, or related fields
  • Ongoing projects/initiatives addressing specific needs within the call’s scope
  • Minimum of three staff members, including the Founder/Director
  • Functional corporate bank account in the country of operation
  • Clearly defined operational structure with accounting processes and procedures
  • Evidence of regular financial accounting
  • Strong connections and networks with victims, survivors, and the community

Application Process and Requirements 

Interested organizations are encouraged to:

  • Complete the application form and budget provided by ATJLF
  • Submit a detailed proposal aligning with the outlined focus areas
  • Ensure thorough completion of the form, including institutional background, project overview, objectives, methodology, activities, expected outcomes, and a clear sustainability plan
  • Electronically submit proposals to I[email protected] with the subject line “ATJLF – ITJA Sub-Grant Proposal.”
