At the IUCN Leaders Forum, the Call for Changemakers program gathers young leaders and innovators who are actively engaged in developing or implementing nature conservation and biodiversity projects within their local communities.
These selected individuals will have the opportunity to participate in the IUCN Leaders Forum in Geneva in October 2024, alongside global leaders. The main purpose is to highlight their innovative projects that have the potential to drive transformative change.
The discussions will focus on concrete actions that integrate nature into energy systems, food and agriculture, and human health. Furthermore, the program aims to advance nature-positive solutions. The young changemakers will also have an exclusive platform to present and pitch their initiatives to influential leaders from the private sector, government, and civil society.
Program Details
The IUCN Leaders Forum is a yearly gathering that brings together leaders and influencers from all over the world to discuss creative solutions. For the world’s most pressing global issues. This event provides an opportunity to make commitments, establish partnerships, and drive positive change in the areas of sustainability and conservation.
The first IUCN Leaders Forum was held in Jeju Province, Republic of Korea in October 2022 and focused on creating nature-friendly economies and societies. Over 500 leaders from various sectors attended the inaugural event.
The second IUCN Leaders Forum was held in 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland, and concentrated on executing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework adopted at the UN Biodiversity Conference (CBD COP15) in December 2022.
The third edition of the IUCN Leaders Forum will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, and online from 8th to 10th October 2024. The theme for this year’s event is “Harnessing innovation, enabling conservation”.

Eligibility Criteria
If you possess the following attributes, you should consider applying to be an IUCN Leaders Forum Changemaker:
- Are between the ages of 18 to 35 years.
- Have demonstrated leadership abilities and innovation in nature conservation, climate change, biodiversity, or sustainable development.
- Are working on an innovative solution that addresses the challenges facing nature. Biodiversity, and the climate crisis while incorporating it in one or more social challenges (e.g., energy, nature, climate nexus, food, agriculture, and climate nexus, the transformation of urban landscapes for nature and people, etc.)
- You are an applicant whose initiatives promote inclusivity, equity, and intergenerational collaboration. And/or take a rights-based approach in the project’s design and implementation.
- Are seeking a diverse set of global changemakers for the IUCN Leaders Forum. With a special emphasis on youth participants from the Global South. Minority groups, Indigenous peoples, local communities, young female leaders, and innovators from around the world. Therefore, you should apply to be an IUCN Leaders Forum Changemaker.
How To Apply
To be considered for selection as an IUCN Leaders Forum Changemaker, you need to complete the application form. The One Young World organization will create a shortlist from which IUCN will make the final selections.
