The Embassy of Canada in El Salvador is excited to announce the opening of the annual proposal submission for the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) 2024-25.

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives – El Salvador

The CFLI is a program created to aid small, impactful initiatives in developing countries that correspond with Global Affairs Canada’s thematic priority areas for involvement.

The program focuses on initiatives largely developed by local partners and is chosen and authorized by the appropriate Canadian embassy or high commission. In addition, the CFLI works to cultivate strong bilateral relations between Canada and recipient countries, as well as their civil societies, through enhanced connections and support for local initiatives.

Thematic priorities

All projects must be by a minimum of one of the CFLI’s global thematic priorities, including:

  • Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
  • Environment and climate action, with emphasis on adaptation, mitigation, and water management.
  • Peace and security, prioritizing conflict prevention and peacebuilding.

Benefits

  • The typical CFLI funding ranges from $30,000 to 40,000 Canadian Dollars, with a maximum allocation of $100,000 for eligible projects under CFLI.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible recipients include:

  • Non-governmental, community, and not-for-profit organizations based locally.
  • Local academic institutions are involved in local projects.
  • International non-governmental organizations engaged in local development efforts.
  • Intergovernmental, multilateral, and regional institutions, organizations, and agencies that are working on local development activities.
  • Municipal, regional, or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country involved in local projects.
  • Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations working on local development activities.

Application process

  • Projects must be finished between the date of signature of the Contribution Agreement and February 28, 2025.
  • Applications after the specified deadline will not be approved. Visit the official website to submit your proposals
  • Proposals must be in English or French.
  • Project proposals must thoroughly address all questions in the CFLI project application form, including the necessary gender-based analysis. The proposed project budget should outline the planned activities and related expenses.
  • Only proposals using the specified application form and including the necessary budget document will be reviewed.
