The High Commission of Canada to Sri Lanka is excited to announce the commencement of its yearly request for proposals for the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives

CFLI is a program aimed at aiding small-scale, influential projects in developing nations that are consistent with Global Affairs Canada’s focus areas for involvement. The program prioritizes projects initiated and formulated mainly by local partners. Projects are chosen and endorsed by the appropriate Canadian embassy or high commission. CFLI also aims to bolster positive bilateral relations between Canada and recipient countries and their civil societies, fostering stronger connections and backing local initiatives.

Thematic priorities

All initiatives should be consistent with one of the CFLI thematic priorities, such as:

  • Inclusive governance, which involves diversity, democracy, human rights, LGBTQ2+ rights, and the rule of law.
  • Peace and security, with an emphasis on preventing conflict and fostering peace.
  • Human dignity encompasses health, education, and nutrition.

Benefit

  • The average CFLI funding ranges from $30,000 to 50,000 Canadian Dollars, with a maximum project allocation of C$100,000.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible recipients include:

  • Non-governmental and non-profit local, national, or community-based organizations
  • Local government institutions or agencies at the municipal, regional, or national level of the recipient country
  • Local academic institutions
  • Canadian non-governmental or non-profit organizations engaged in local development endeavors.
  • International or regional non-governmental or non-profit organizations involved in local development activities.
  • Intergovernmental or multilateral institutions, organizations, or agencies dedicated to local development efforts.

How to Apply For Canada Fund for Local Initiatives – Sri Lanka 2024

Stage 1: Concept Note

  • Proposals should be in either English or French.
  • Please send the Concept Note form via email to the specified email address on the official website.
  • The deadline for concept note submission is 11:59 p.m. (GMT+5:30) on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Concept notes received after this deadline may not be reviewed.

Stage 2: Application form

  • Applicants who are selected for further consideration will be notified in February 2024 and will be given two weeks to fill out an application form along with a thorough budget.
  • Please be aware that project applications are archived at missions following Global Affairs Canada’s information management policies.
