Bridging Excellence Postdoctoral Program 2024

This program supports postdoctoral fellows conducting collaborative research between EMBL and Stanford University School of Medicine (SoM) and/or the School of Humanities & Sciences (H&S). Applicants are encouraged to propose impactful and creative collaborations involving at least one lab from EMBL and one lab from Stanford SoM or H&S.

Leveraging the resources of these two leading institutions allows participants to gain valuable experience in two distinct research environments, fostering the development of a global profile.

Fellows can access researchers and technology at both sites, in addition to benefiting from top-notch postdoctoral training opportunities.

Fellowship Benefits

  • Standard 3-year EMBL/Stanford postdoc stipend, including family and social security benefits.
  • Contribution towards lab consumables (up to EUR/$ 25,000).
  • Travel and accommodation supplement for visit(s) to the partner institution (up to EUR/$ 25,000).
  • Funds for attending an international conference (up to EUR/$ 2,000).

Eligibility

Bridging Excellence Fellowships welcome researchers of all nationalities, genders, and scientific backgrounds. Applicants should be prepared for international mobility and embrace the role of being an ambassador for transatlantic science.

PhD completion within the last two years is a requirement, and current PhD students may apply if the degree is awarded before taking up the fellowship.

Fellows with past or current employment at EMBL/Stanford can also apply, ensuring it complies with the maximum postdoctoral fellowship employment limit.
