Nominations are open for the Royal Society’s Rising Star Africa Prize for 2024. The Royal Society’s Rising Star Africa Prize for 2024 seeks to honor early-career research scientists based in Africa who are making significant and innovative contributions to the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences.
Rising Star Africa Prize 2024
Established in memory of Paul O’Brien FRS, this prize reflects his commitment to promoting excellence in science and education across the African continent.
The Royal Society Rising Star Africa Prize for 2023 has been awarded to Dr Wade Petersen. He is recognized for his groundbreaking research into new methods for constructing molecules relevant to drug discovery, utilizing visible light as a source of energy. Dr. Petersen will officially receive the prize during an associated lecture scheduled for early 2024.
Benefits
Winners of the Rising Star Africa Prize will receive a grant of £14,000 to support their ongoing research endeavors, along with a personal gift of £1,000.
Eligibility Criteria
The Royal Society Rising Star Africa Prize is open to African citizens who meet the following criteria:
- Early-career scientists with no more than 15 years since achieving their PhD (excluding career breaks).
- Nominations will remain valid and be considered by the award selection committee throughout three nomination cycles.
