Our planet faces unprecedented global challenges and is at a crucial turning point. Immediate measures are essential to confront environmental hazards such as climate change, excessive disposable waste, and the depletion of natural resources.
The fifth edition of the Sustainability Open Innovation Challenge, hosted by Enterprise Singapore, brings together industry partners and invites creative thinkers from around the globe to develop sustainable solutions across diverse sectors. Furthermore, these solutions will initially target local and regional issues before being expanded globally.
Challenging Theme
The Sustainability Open Innovation Challenge 2023 consists of two sections: demand-led challenge statements and the Open Category.
Demand-driven challenge statements are categorized into the following themes:
- Climate Change
- Green Buildings
- Sustainable Agriculture and Trade
- Sustainable Materials
This year’s Open Category is open to solutions focused on sustainability, which will be directed to the Liveability Challenge 2023.
Benefits
- Winners will receive more than S$3,000,000 in support, with S$75,000 from Hexagon Group, along with funding and real-world testing facilitated by industry leaders.
- Successful innovators will have the chance to collaborate in co-innovation with corporate partners, gaining access to their valuable expertise, mentorship, and substantial resources.
Eligibility Criteria
- All solution providers from around the globe are welcome to participate.
- Your solution will initially focus on local and regional markets before expanding globally.
Evaluation Criteria
Please make sure the following elements are adequately addressed in your proposal:
- Technical Feasibility & Novelty 25%
- Does the solution show inventive use of technology, highlighting technical skill and originality?
- Is there a clear description of how the technical elements of the solution tackle the sustainability issue, emphasizing distinctiveness and innovation?
- Business Feasibility25%
- Can the business model be expanded, showing the solution’s potential for widespread market adoption and expansion?
- Team Capacity & Expertise 25%
- Do team members possess diverse skills, pertinent experience, and a track record of successful teamwork, showcasing their capacity to deliver innovative sustainable solutions?
Details of POC / MVP 25%
- Does the proof of concept (POC) / pilot proposal address factors regarding execution, schedule, and expenses?
Application Procedure
Before you make an application, you will need to register for an account on the Sustainability Open Innovation Challenge platform. You will get a confirmation email after you register. After receiving the email, you can submit your application with your details. You also have the option to save your application as a draft if necessary.
As an additional benefit, individuals who submit their entries by Monday, 15 January 2024 will have the opportunity to:
- Receive exclusive feedback on their entry ahead of the final submission deadline.
- Be evaluated by their VC partners for potential investment opportunities.
