2024 JournalismAI Fellowship Programme

We are now accepting applications for the fourth cohort of the JournalismAI Fellowship, with a specific focus on projects involving GenAI. The selected group of up to 30 journalists and technologists will form the 2024 Fellowship cohort, engaging in collaborative work spanning seven months from April to November.

Applications are open to individuals working in news organizations globally. However, logistical challenges may arise for those outside the GMT-6 and GMT+8 time zones. Eligible participants should possess experience in projects or stories incorporating AI technologies.

Designed to accommodate participants’ existing roles, the program requires a commitment of 8 hours per week to the Fellowship. Both editorial and technical individuals within news organizations are encouraged to apply either as pairs (one editorial and one technical) or as individual applicants.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Editorial or technical roles within news organizations
  • Experience in projects or stories involving AI technologies
  • Fluency in English

Please note that this program is not suitable for journalists entirely new to AI technologies; instead, they are encouraged to explore the Academy for Small Newsrooms or the JournalismAI Discovery.

Program Benefits

  • GBP 6,000 per project allocated for research and project development
  • This fund is not a stipend; participants are not expected to leave their current roles.
  • Mentors supporting the work will receive GBP 500 for their dedication.

Application process

  1. Express Interest: Submit an initial application for the screening process.
  1. Match with Other Applicants: Shortlisted candidates will be guided through a matchmaking process to form teams. Teams can consist of four or six fellows, maintaining an equal split between editorial/strategic and technical fellows.
  2. Submit Joint Project Proposal: Formed teams must submit a final application with a detailed project proposal for the Fellowship period.

Application deadline

Friday, 26 January 2024, at 11:59 PM GMT.
