The CONNECTAS Fellowship 2024 is now open for applications from seasoned journalists based in Latin America or the Caribbean, passionate about shedding light on societal injustices and holding the powerful Accountable.

This Fellowship is an opportunity to engage deeply in pressing issues plaguing the aforementioned region, from organized crime to corporate corruption, and bring about meaningful change through investigative journalism.

The CONNECTAS Fellowship is a platform for amplifying impactful stories that resonate on both national and regional levels. With funding of up to $2,500, selected projects receive editorial support and guidance to ensure the highest standards of journalistic integrity and excellence.

CONNECTAS Fellowship – Required Stories

CONNECTAS welcomes proposals that challenge the status quo and inspire change such as uncovering political scandals to investigating environmental crimes. Examples of  impactful stories Include:

  • Exposing the nexus between politicians and organized crime syndicates
  • Investigating human rights violations against marginalized communities
  • Uncovering corporate corruption threatening the environment
  • Shedding light on the exploitation of migrant workers by economic interests

What Winners Can Expect:

  • Editorial Support: Selected fellows will receive personalized guidance from experienced editors, to ensure that their projects meet the highest standards of journalistic integrity and impact.
  • Financial Resources: Fellows are provided with grants ranging from $1,000 to $2,500, as a financial backing to conduct thorough research, cover expenses, and compensate team members for their contributions.
  • Regional Dissemination: Fellows’ work will be featured prominently on CONNECTAS, the premier platform for collaborative journalism in Latin America, reaching audiences far and wide. Also, allied media partners within their Information Community will amplify the reach of these impactful stories.
  • Journalistic Community: Upon publication, fellows become part of #CONNECTASHub; a vibrant community of journalists, activists, and Changemakers dedicated to driving positive change in our region.

General Conditions:

  • Selected Candidates will have editorial freedom over their story. They’re expected to participate in the pedagogical editorial support process in which they will receive continuous feedback on their research. Proposals will be carried out within 4 months.
  • Proposals that have collaboration between journalists and with strong investigative component, social impact, and novelty, will be considered with special interest.
  • Successfully selected Candidates will accept the terms of republication of the research material, editorial support, security conditions under which the topics are followed up, and preparations for the final dissemination.
  • Publications must consist of audiovisual, multimedia or storytelling elements, done by the work team.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the CONNECTAS Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be practicing journalists with a minimum of three years’ experience
  • Must currently be residing in Latin America or the Caribbean
  • Submission of recent publications, preferably investigative reports or in-depth analyses
  • Proficiency in Spanish is mandatory as the proposals must be in Spanish
  • Application via the Matrix CONNECTAS platform is the only medium through which submissions can be made
  • Prospective Candidates must not an ongoing scholarship with CONNECTAS.

Selection Process:

The selection process involves two rounds of evaluation by esteemed members of the CONNECTAS Editorial Board. They prioritize quality, regional diversity, and alignment with their programmatic goals to ensure that each selected project has the potential to make a meaningful impact.
