Nominations for the Royal Society Africa Prize 2024 are now being accepted. The purpose of the Royal Society Africa Prize is to honor African-based research scientists who are making significant advances in the sciences.
The bronze medal is given out every year along with a donation of £2,000 gift. Before its most recent presentation in 2016, the Royal Society Pfizer Award held this honor.

For practically all of its medals, the Royal Society is encouraging collaborations, groups, or teams to be nominated to better reflect the way that modern science is conducted.

The winner of the Royal Society Africa Prize will receive a bronze medal and a gift of £2,000.
Eligibility Requirements for the Royal Society Africa Prize
Candidates who wish to be considered must fulfil the conditions below:
- Prospective Candidates must have made an exceptional, inventive contribution to biological science including basic medical science
- Candidates must have made a major contribution to the development of African capacity.
- The prize is meant for early-career researchers. Who has the potential to develop a research project that will build upon it? These researchers typically hold a PhD within the last ten to fifteen years.
- Africa must serve as the base of the study.
- Senior academics and members of the National Academies of Science are eligible to nominate someone.
- The nominee and the project should be connected to an African centre of excellence (a university or other comparable research facility).
- Usually, the recipient of the Prize is someone who has not yet attained full professorship status.
