The ESISMAD Project African Scholarship offers fully-funded opportunities for African students to pursue higher education in various fields. The scholarship programme is established under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme, It is also offered as a result of the partnership between the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU).

The ESISMAD Project African Scholarship program is being managed by the European Commission, as it aims to enhance human capital development in Africa while fostering intra-African collaboration in line with Agenda 2063.

As a result of the program’s integration of HEIs from various regions, provisions must be made for appropriate procedures to facilitate the exchanges, including arrangements for curriculum comparison and recognition of study abroad periods.

Thus, it is anticipated that the plan will improve higher education’s harmonization and standardizing in accordance with the African Union’s Higher Education Harmonization Strategy. It will significantly advance regional integration and offer particular lessons for the Pan African Quality and Accreditation Framework’s implementation.

Objectives

The primary objectives of the ESISMAD Project African Scholarship are:

  • Enhancing Human Capital Development: The ESISMAD Project African Scholarship aims to increase the employability of students and promoting the relevance of higher education to Africa’s development vision.
  • Improving Higher Education Quality: Strengthening the modernization and internationalization of African higher education institutions.
  • Promoting African Higher Education and Research Space: Contributing to the development of a cohesive African higher education and research environment.

Program Benefits

Selected scholarship recipients will receive comprehensive support, including:

  • Round-trip flight tickets and visa costs.
  • Coverage for participation costs such as tuition, registration, and service fees.
  • Insurance coverage encompassing health, accident, and travel.
  • Settling-in allowance and monthly subsistence allowance.
  • Contribution towards research costs for mobility periods of 10 months or longer.
  • Additional allowance for female master and doctoral scholarship holders.

  • Materials Electrochemistry and Energy Technologies
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Solar Energy Physics
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Materials Science
