As part of the benefits of this scholarship, successfully selected candidates may be given the chance to work up to ten (10) weeks of paid summer vacation in Port Waratah from December through February. Every year, Port Waratah Coal Services will fund eight (8) scholarships for continuing students.

Port Waratah Coal Services Limited is a public foreign-owned business, that generates its revenue in Australia by receiving, blending, storing, and shiploading coal. The company’s head office is located in Kooragang Island, New South Wales, and it employs over 300 people.

Benefits of Port Waratah Coal Services Business Scholarship

  • The $7,000 annual benefit from the scholarship will be given as a lump sum after the first census date of the semester.
  • As long as eligibility is maintained, the scholarship is available for up to three years of study and can award a maximum value of $21,000.

Eligibility Requirements for Applicants

To be eligible to apply for the Port Waratah Coal Services Business Scholarship, you will need to meet the requirements below:

  • You must be enrolled in the first year of the University of Newcastle’s B Innovation and Entrepreneurship program or B Business degree (including combination).
  • It is not appropriate for you to have finished an undergraduate degree program in Australia before.
  • Be enrolled in a full-time taught program.
  • Enroll at one of the campuses in Newcastle.
  • Showcase the repercussions of educational disadvantages, such as the burden of being a caregiver or single parent, financial difficulties, a chronic illness, a disability, the aftereffects of abuse that persist, a remote or regional disadvantage, and challenges with the English language.
  • Applications with attributes such as being an Indigenous Australian, being the child of refugees, or being placed with an out-of-home care provider will also be taken into account for equity scholarships.
  • Candidates must possess an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or equivalent of 75 or higher.
  • Applicants must be nationals or citizens of Australia or have an Australian Permanent Resident (including New Zealand Permanent Residents).
  • Candidates who have previously received this scholarship are not eligible
  • Recipients of this scholarship are not allowed to be recipients of another University of Newcastle donor-funded or sponsored scholarship.
