The call for applications is now open for Aga Khan Foundation’s International Postgraduate Scholarship Program (AKF ISP) 2024. Through the AKF ISP, exceptional scholars from a limited number of nations who lack alternative funding sources can pursue postgraduate courses.
Since its founding in 1969 by His Highness the Aga Khan, the Aga Khan Foundation’s International Postgraduate Scholarship Program (AKF ISP) has provided financial assistance to over a thousand students.
Recipients of this award are chosen through an international, yearly, competitive application process. Every cycle, the AKF ISP grants a restricted number of new awards.
The AKF ISP 2024 – Overview
The Aga Khan Foundation’s International Postgraduate Scholarship Program (AKF ISP), gives precedence to Master’s degree programs, while PhD applications will also be taken into consideration.
The International Postgraduate Scholarship Program (ISP) funding is available for distance learning programs and local/regional universities, provided that the course quality is upheld.
Applications from students who have already enrolled in or begun their postgraduate studies, as well as those for part-time programs and short-term courses, will not be accepted.
Award Conditions
Half of the award amount must be repaid by the recipients of the Aga Khan Foundation’s International Postgraduate Scholarship Program (AKF ISP), which is designed as a grant and half as a loan. Master’s degree scholarships are awarded for the full length of the program. Scholarships are given to PhD candidates for the first two years; beyond that, recipients will need to locate other means of support.
The recipient’s living expenses and tuition are covered by the grant. It does not pay for living expenditures for family members, clothing, furniture, or overseas trips.
To maintain an AKF ISP award, recipients are expected to demonstrate good academic standing, as well as ongoing financial need, during their postgraduate programme.
Eligibility Requirements for AKF International Postgraduate Scholarship
To qualify for an AKF ISP award, you must meet the following represents:
- Possess outstanding academic credentials
- Possess a bachelor’s degree or a comparable level of education or work experience
- Be accepted into a renowned postgraduate school
- Exhibit true financial need
- Create a well-thought-out, dependable, multi-source finance plan
- Have a great potential for leadership, professional experience, extracurricular and/or entrepreneurial accomplishments, and volunteer work.
Note: Young professionals under 30 years of age are given precedence.

- Applicants are encouraged to liaise with the appropriate country-level entity to request an application form.
- All the submitted applications are handled by local units of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), or Aga Khan Education Board (AKEB).
- Applications must be submitted to the agency from which the ISP application form was obtained, any late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
