The HIAS Individual Research Fellowships program offers equal opportunity, as it encourages applications from individuals in usually underrepresented regions of the world. During their fellowship, participants live and work in Hamburg, an environment where only projects that can be executed on-site at HIAS or in collaboration with local partners are deemed suitable. To ensure a fresh perspective, researchers within the metropolitan region of Hamburg are not eligible for a HIAS fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria for HIAS Individual Research Fellowships 2025
- The HIAS fellowship program is open to outstanding scholars with a minimum requirement of a doctorate
- Artists and cultural professionals of all career levels and nationalities are also encouraged to apply
- Ideal candidates must demonstrate substantial scientific or artistic achievements, intellectual curiosity, and an above-average interest in diverse disciplines.
- Candidates must be willing to cooperate with scholars or cultural professionals in Hamburg.
