During their fellowship, participants live and work in Hamburg, an environment where only projects that can be executed on-site at HIAS or in collaboration with local partners are deemed suitable. To ensure a fresh perspective, researchers within the metropolitan region of Hamburg are not eligible for a HIAS fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria for HIAS Individual Research Fellowships 2025

  • The HIAS fellowship program is open to outstanding scholars with a minimum requirement of a doctorate
  • Artists and cultural professionals of all career levels and nationalities are also encouraged to apply

Evaluation criteria combine previous academic or artistic performances, including publications, prestigious prizes, awards, memberships, exhibitions, concerts, performances, and, for academics, a doctorate.
