Disney reportedly drops Jonathan Majors following assault verdict, a Marvel lead. Majors who plays Kang the Conqueror, was recently found guilty of assault and harassment charges.
Disney Drops Jonathan Majors
Disney has reportedly dropped Jonathan Majors from his leading Marvel role as Kang the Conqueror after the actor was found guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and of harassment, as per The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. The verdict in question comes after a two-week trial following the arrest of Majors last March after an alleged altercation with his ex-partner Grace Jabbari.
Marvels Plan To Set Up Majors as the Next Supervillain for the Franchise
Marvel had prior to the verdict been setting up for Majors to be the next supervillain for the franchise, but now the firm is changing course. It is unclear as to whether Disney plans to recast Kang or just change its planned storylines more drastically. Majors already had appeared in both seasons of Loki and also in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and was also set to star in one of the next planned Avengers movies, subtitled The Kang Dynasty. However, THR has stated that Marvel may just be looking to focus on a new villain instead and also that The Kang Dynasty “is now being referred to as Avengers 5.”
Majors’ Arrest and Release
After his reported arrest, Majors was then released by his managers at Entertainment 360 and his publicity firm The Lede Company. Disney at the time waited until the end of his trial to drop him. Disney however didn’t reply to a request for comment immediately.
Majors was reportedly accused of assaulting Jabbari. And though he was guilty of the two previously mentioned charges, the actor was acquitted on charges of intentional assault in the third degree as well as aggravated harassment in the second degree, THR reports.
Majors Sentencing
The sentencing of Majors will be on February 6th, 2024.
