Applications are currently open for the 2024 cycle of the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP). The CADFP is a fellowship initiative that supports educational projects at higher education institutions in Africa.
Administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), the program is financially supported through a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York (CCNY).
Fully Funded Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program
Since its establishment in 2013, a total of 665 African Diaspora Fellowships have been granted, enabling scholars to undertake educational projects in Africa.
The CADFP reflects CCNY’s enduring dedication to advancing higher education in Africa. The program’s management, including the handling of applications, project requests, and fellowships, is overseen by IIE.
Benefits for African Diaspora Fellows include
- A $150/day stipend
- Visa costs (if required)
- Supplemental health insurance coverage
- Round-trip international air travel and ground transportation costs to and from the scholar’s home to the North American airport
- Potential opportunities to apply for supplemental funding to cover knowledge production activities and workshop attendance.
Eligibility criteria for scholars
- Born in any African country
- Currently living in the United States or Canada
- Hold a terminal degree
- Employed at an accredited college or university
- Scholars may hold any academic rank, but postdocs are not eligible.
Host institutions
Host institutions, including accredited African universities in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and member institutions of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and partner universities with the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA), can submit project requests to host an African-born scholar currently residing in the United States or Canada.
Application deadline
The application cycle for Project Requests opened on January 4, 2024, and will close on March 4, 2024, at 11:59 PM EST.
