The 2024 Kan Tong Po Fellowship applications are now being accepted by the Royal Society. These fellowships are intended for scientists with US or UK bases who wish to use a one-time visit to foster collaborations with top scientists in Hong Kong.
This program’s goal is to support top-tier scientific research and instruction at the University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology by giving out visiting fellowships annually to scientists in the UK or the USA who wish to work with academics in Hong Kong or vice versa.

The Royal Society acknowledges that providing excellence in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), requires diversity. The Society aims to promote proposals from as many diverse origins, viewpoints, and experiences as possible in order to maximize scientific discovery and creativity for the good of humanity.

Benefits
Fellows can access up to £3,000, to cover for one-off visit of up to three months from:
- The UK or USA to Hong Kong or
- From Kong to either UK or USA
- Funds can cover the cost of travel and subsistence

Eligibility Criteria
You’re Eligible for this scheme if you:
- Have obtained a PhD degree or have equivalent research experience
- Currently hold a fixed or permanent contract at an eligible organization for the duration of the project. Please note that ineligible organizations include industrial, private, and commercial organizations, university spin-out companies, and Government Institutions.
- You must be resident in the respective countries at the time of application. Researchers are allowed to collaborate between any UK or US university or recognized independent research organization and the following universities in Hong Kong:
Chinese University of Hong Kong
Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
University of Hong Kong
- The natural sciences division of the Royal Society must be the focus of your research as well as biological and biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, and physics.
Application Process
To apply for Royal Society Kan Tong Po Fellowship Program:
- Go to Royal Society’s application and grant management system, Flexi-Grant on: https://grants.royalsociety.org/
- The International Exchanges Panel will supervise the application evaluation process.
- Applications are evaluated and evaluated by two International Exchanges Panel members with the best suitable scientific background after eligibility has been verified.
- Subsequently, a shortlist is compiled under the panel chair’s supervision and proposed for funding.
