Democracy Now! Video News Production Fellowship
Democracy Now! is dedicated to enhancing diversity within newsrooms and nurturing the next generation of journalists. Fellows will have the chance to develop skills and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic live TV news environment. They will also be encouraged to bring their unique voices, perspectives, and experiences into the newsroom. The staff at Democracy Now! will offer personalized mentorship and supervision to ensure that fellows make the most of their opportunities to learn about newsroom practices, production, and online publishing.
Responsibility
- The responsibilities for this role involve creating video packages and visual elements for both the newscast and website.
- You will collaborate with the Production team during the live morning show and assist them in various tasks.
- Supporting the Production, DN! en Español, and Digital teams, you will edit content for web and social media platforms.
- This position also requires shooting and editing field packages that cover events like speeches, protests, and press conferences.
- Furthermore, you’ll operate teleprompter and studio cameras as needed.
- Additional duties may be assigned to you as well.
Compensation and Benefits
- The annual salary for this position is $62,400.

Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must possess a valid work authorization in the United States and be able to commit to full-time employment in New York City for the entire one-year fellowship period.
- A minimum of three years of experience in shooting and editing videos is required for this position.
- Having proficiency in Adobe Suite is highly preferred.
- It is important to have a deep interest in national and global news and a strong dedication to Democracy Now!’s mission.
- Being creative, adaptable, and comfortable with the fast-paced nature of live news is essential.
- Having good technical skills, being familiar with various social media platforms, and being open to learning new technologies and systems is important.
- Being bilingual in Spanish and English would be an advantageous asset.
