AXIAN, a prominent pan-African telecom operator, has welcomed Vivek Badrinath to its board of directors as a non-executive director.

The Mauritius-based telco made the announcement, highlighting Badrinath’s extensive experience in the telecom sector, including his tenure as CEO and board chair of Vantage Towers AG.

During his leadership at Vantage Towers AG, spanning three years, Badrinath orchestrated pivotal milestones such as the company’s establishment in 2020, its successful IPO in 2021, and subsequent sale to private equity in 2023.

Under his guidance, Vantage Towers managed an extensive network of 88,000 telecom towers across eight European countries.

AXIAN underscored Badrinath’s significant leadership background in the telecom industry, citing his previous role as CEO of Africa, Middle East, and Asia Pacific at Vodafone.

During his tenure, Badrinath oversaw Vodafone’s operations in various regions, including the Vodacom Group, India, Australia, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, and New Zealand.

Hassanein Hiridjee, Chairman of AXIAN, expressed confidence in Badrinath’s ability to drive strategic growth and manage telecom infrastructure effectively. He said: “We are confident that he will make significant contributions to our mission of enhancing connectivity and improving the lives of communities throughout the continent.”

Collective Impact of AXIAN Across Africa

In response to his appointment, Badrinath conveyed his commitment to leveraging his expertise to contribute meaningfully to AXIAN’s objectives. He expressed optimism about the collective impact that AXIAN, along with its directors, can make across the African continent.

He added, “I firmly believe that together, we can make a substantial and noteworthy impact across the continent.”

AXIAN Telecom operates in eight countries, serving over 38 million consumers, including Madagascar, Comoros, Reunion and Mayotte, Senegal, Togo, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Tanzania.

With Badrinath’s addition to its board, AXIAN aims to strengthen its strategic position and further its mission of fostering connectivity and socioeconomic development in Africa.
