Applications are open for the Atlas South Mediterranean > France Postdoctoral Fellowship 2024, a collaborative initiative by the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’homme (FMSH) and the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED).

Atlas South Mediterranean France Postdoctoral Fellowship

This fellowship offers short-term opportunities of 2 or 3 months in France for young researchers hailing from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, and Syria, affiliated with one of the 164 University members of UNIMED.

Financial Aid

  • Laureates selected for this fellowship will receive financial support of €1,700 per month. This contribution is intended to cover expenses such as transport and accommodation costs. Additionally, FMSH will provide scientific and logistical assistance, including working space and help in finding accommodation and letters of support to access libraries.

Eligibility

  • Open to researchers originating from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia, and Syria, affiliated with one of the 164 University members of UNIMED.
  • Applicants must have obtained their PhD doctorate and presented their thesis in 2018. There is no age limit.
  • Applicants must be engaged in research in social sciences and humanities (SSH) or at the frontier between SSH and other sciences.
  • Proficiency in either French or English, depending on the project, is required.
  • French host institution: Applicants must find a French research institution willing to host them during their fellowship. A letter from the hosting institution expressing the willingness to host and outlining the work conditions offered is a prerequisite.

Evaluation criteria

A selection committee, consisting of members from FMSH, UNIMED, and independent experts, will assess applications based on the following criteria:

  1. The quality of the scientific dossier and the methodology developed.
  2. The relevance of a research stay in France concerning the scientific project and the candidate’s curriculum.
  3. The ability to identify scientific contacts in France.

Priority will be given to candidates who have not previously benefited from the program.

Application Requirements

Applicants are required to submit an online application form and a scientific dossier (research project + appendices) before the deadline of March 18, 2024, 17:00 (Paris time).

Both the online application and scientific dossier must be submitted in French or English.

Content of Scientific Dossier

  1. The research proposal (10,000 to 20,000 characters): State of the art, problematic, objective, specific aim of the research project, methodology, and bibliography.
  2. The detailed program of the research stay: Places and institutions to be visited, contacts, and work plan.

Appendices

  • Curriculum vitae (2 pages maximum)
  • List of publications
  • Copy of the Ph.D. diploma
  • Letter from the director of the research institution in the country of origin
  • Letter of invitation from the director of the host research institution in France expressing the institution’s willingness to host the applicant during the fellowship and explaining the work conditions they can offer.
