World Intellectual Property Day(WIPD) – Youth Video Competition 2024 (Up to CHF 5,000 Prize) | How to Apply

The World Intellectual Property Day Youth Video Competition 2024, empowers young individuals to express their creativity through a 60 to 90-second video, demonstrating how innovators, creators, entrepreneurs, or local communities are contributing to a brighter future through innovation, creativity, and the protection of intellectual property (IP) rights.

The World Intellectual Property Day Youth Video Competition is available for both individual participants and groups of individuals. The theme for this year is centered on “With intellectual property (IP), we can dream of a better future, turn our ideas into reality, and create a world where everyone thrives.”

Prizes

  • First Prize: Digital equipment valued up to CHF 5,000.
  • Second Prize: Digital equipment valued up to CHF 3,000.
  • Third Prize: Digital equipment valued up to CHF 1,000.
  • The People’s Choice Prize: Digital equipment valued up to CHF 2,500.
  • The top 20 winning entries will receive training opportunities from the WIPO Academy.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Individual entries must be submitted by individuals aged between 18 and 34 years old on the closing date for entries.
  • Group entries can include up to 10 members, with at least one member being aged between 18 and 34 on the closing date for entries.
  • Participants must hold all rights to their video entry and have obtained permission to use any third-party content it may include.
  • The video entry must not have been previously published online or recognized/won an award in another competition.
  • The video must not infringe on any copyright, trademarks, patents, trade secrets, industrial designs, distinctive signs, contractual obligations, or any other intellectual property rights of any third party.

Video requirements

Entries will be:

  • The duration should be between 60 and 90 seconds.
  • The video to be submitted should be in MP4 format.
  • There should be no subtitles or captions included.
  • Audio narratives in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish are allowed, provided they are accompanied by a time-coded transcript in the corresponding language.

Selection Criteria

The judging of the videos will consider factors such as how well they reflect the theme, their expression of the theme, originality, creativity, messaging, and visual appeal, among other criteria.

How to Apply For World Intellectual Property Day- Youth Video Competition 2024

  • The videos selected for the shortlist will be entered into an online public voting process to determine the recipient of the People’s Choice Prize. This prize will be given to the entry that garners the most votes during the online public vote.
  • The public voting period will take place from April 10th to April 21st, 2024. Each voter can cast a maximum of five votes to show their preferred entries.
