The WomEng Southern Africa Fellowship, supported by the De Beers Group, aims to develop the leadership, innovation, well-being, and employability skills necessary for young engineering and technology graduates to excel in their careers and beyond.

The WomEng Southern Africa Fellowship 2024 offers a unique hybrid learning experience, providing fellows with the tools they need to thrive in the future workplace. The program includes regular online discussions via WhatsApp and live virtual masterclasses. It will be delivered in three modules starting in March 2024, with an assignment and feedback required after each module.

The program is designed to empower young women in engineering and technology to confidently navigate the professional world as leaders. It is open to prospective engineering graduates from Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa.

The program will cover three modules:

  • Module 1: Leadership – Unveiling and Sharing Your Personal Narrative
  • Module 2: Innovation – Cultivating Skills for the Future World of Work
  • Module 3: Employability – Succeeding in the Workplace

The modules will also incorporate elements of well-being, teaching fellows to recharge and take care of themselves, to help them establish healthy coping mechanisms and reduce stress. The program is intended for full-time female engineering, technology, or built environment students currently enrolled at a university or university of technology in South Africa, Botswana, or Namibia.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The program is open to female students in the fields of engineering, technology, and the built environment.
  • Applicants must be enrolled full-time at a university or university of technology in South Africa, Botswana, or Namibia.
  • Non-citizens of these countries are also eligible to apply.
  • Applicants should be in their second-to-last or final year of undergraduate studies, or engaged in full-time postgraduate studies with plans to enter the workforce in 2025 or 2026.
  • Commitment of 7-9 hours per month from March 2024 is required to participate in the program. The program is designed to accommodate anticipated academic workloads and holidays.
  • Former WomEng Fellowship alumni are not eligible to apply.
