You can now apply for the BIEA Graduate Attachment Scheme (GAS) 2024. This scheme invites recent graduates with a keen interest in advancing their studies in any field within the Humanities and Social Sciences in Africa to embark on a transformative three-month attachment at the BIEA headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

BIEA Graduate Attachments offer participants:
- Dedicated library time to cultivate research interests, facilitated by access to BIEA’s extensive collection.
- Hands-on research experience in East Africa, serving as research assistants on dynamic projects spanning historical, archaeological, anthropological, political science, or legal disciplines.
- Networking opportunities with both emerging and established researchers, fostering international connections.
- Acquisition of valuable administrative skills through involvement in event organization and institute operations.
- Access to Kiswahili classes at beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels.
Benefits
- Selected participants will receive a monthly salary for the duration of their attachment in Nairobi. Assistance in securing suitable accommodation near the BIEA premises can be provided upon request.
- Additionally, the BIEA will cover travel expenses to and from Nairobi, visa fees (if applicable), and insurance during the attachment period.
Eligibility
- The scheme is open to recent graduates with aspirations for further studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences, and applicants must be based in Africa.
Application Requirements
The GAS scheme will operate in two cohorts in 2024: June-August and September-November.
While applicants can indicate their preference, cohort assignment cannot be guaranteed. Notification of successful applicants will be provided by the end of April.
If you do not receive communication from BIEA by this time, you should consider your application unsuccessful for the current cycle.
