  • Compelling storytelling that engages viewers through visually appealing and interactive elements, enhancing the impact of the reporting.
  • Public service-oriented content that either focuses on crucial issues and offers insightful analysis or empowers communities by facilitating their access to significant information.
  • Innovative ideas that possess the potential to advance the field of data journalism.

Benefits

  • In addition to recognition and accolades, winners of the Sigma Awards will receive a cash prize of US$ 5,000. This monetary award will be divided among the winners.
  • Each recipient will also be presented with a certificate that can be proudly displayed and framed.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Submissions must pertain to work that was published during the year 2023, specifically between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023.
  • To qualify, entries must be received no later than January 17, 2024, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time (ET).
  • Participants are allowed to submit an unlimited number of projects.
  • Entries should clearly indicate whether they qualify as a large newsroom, small newsroom, or individual, as applicable. Small newsrooms are defined as those with 35 journalists or fewer, including regular freelancers/contractors. For example, if there are two part-time freelancers, they should be counted as one person.
  • Organizations that do not meet the small newsroom criteria but believe they should still be classified as such can request an exception. This can be done by sending a letter from the editor-in-chief, explaining the rationale, to Marianne Bouchart, executive director at marianne@sigmaawards.org.
  • Collaborative work must be submitted under the large newsroom category.
  • By entering, organizations grant The Sigma Awards permission to utilize their materials in their entry. This includes the organization’s name, and logo, and may be featured on The Sigma Awards website as well as other marketing materials associated with the awards.
