The Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) in partnership with the Shockwave Foundation and the Munich Re Foundation, is inviting applications from eligible organizations for the Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature –RAIN Challenge 2024 (Phase II).
The Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature (RAIN) challenge aims to take breakthrough agricultural ideas at the seed stage that address East Africa’s needs for resilience and scale them up to viable business concepts that would appeal to funders and private investors.
The objective is to find fresh, creative agricultural projects and offer tailored assistance to maximize the potential impact of each project. The Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature (RAIN) challenge, seeks to draw attention to the pressing need for agricultural systems transformation and get potential donors connected with these projects.
RAIN Challenge 2024
Through this Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature (RAIN) challenge, the Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) with its partners, are searching for creative, scalable nature-positive solutions that can boost resilience, encourage ecosystem investment, and create a more favorable environment for the growth of nature-positive agriculture.
Initiatives must safeguard biodiversity, prioritize women, equity, and human rights, and increase resilience for those who are most susceptible to shocks and pressures. Initiatives with women and youth as end users will be given special consideration; initiatives led by women and youth are encouraged.
Benefits of Participating in the RAIN Challenge
Winners of this challenge will receive the following benefits:
- The winners will be connected with possible investors, funders, and benefactors. in addition to receiving assistance with communications and a customized mentoring program.
- Winners will receive an invitation to a pitching session and investor forum, either in person or electronically. The shortlisted candidates will participate in a leadership academy led by subject matter experts.
- Following the leadership academy and the initial mentorship term, winners will also get financial.
Eligibility Requirements for RAIN Challenge 2024
The Resilient Agriculture Innovations for Nature (RAIN) Challenge 2024 is open to;
- Not-for-profit organizations across the public, local civil society, international NGOs, and academia.
- The challenge is also open to for-profit organizations, farmers, and entrepreneurs in the following East African countries: Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
- Proposals from youth-led and women-led organizations are highly welcome.

Challenge Timeline
- The application window opens on 10 December 2023 and Closes on the 30th of January 2024.
- 22 January 2024 (15:00 – 16:00 EAT): Webinar for potential applicants
- Successfully shortlisted applicants for the challenge will receive notifications by mid-March 2024.
