The project to build a 700km open-access metro fiber network that will provide high-quality connectivity in underserved regions in ten Zambian cities and towns was started in the fourth quarter of 2022 by Paratus Zambia, a subsidiary of pan-African network operator Paratus Group1.

Using this recently constructed fiber network, Paratus will make use of the fiber cores to offer its customers dependable, high-capacity last-mile connectivity.

Paratus Zambia will be able to offer wholesale services to internet service providers and mobile network operators by constructing this network.

In addition to improving the current Paratus infrastructure and generating hundreds of employments for the local community, the project will now provide more dependable services and better coverage.

Long-term Commitment to Transforming Africa

The network will also connect to the carrier-neutral Paratus data center in Lusaka, where the company provides direct high-quality connectivity, colocation, and cloud services to local enterprises.

Paratus Zambia country manager Marius van Vuuren said: “We are very proud to have worked with Meta on this project and we are delighted to be helping to provide millions of people and thousands of businesses with the opportunity to connect to the internet via a faster and more secure fibre network.”

Metro fibre will be available in Lusaka, Kitwe, Ndola, Livingstone, Chingola, Chililabombwe, Solwezi, Chambishi, Kabwe, and Mufulira.
