Entries are now being invited for the 2024 Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism. The Prize is sponsored by Nigeria LNG, and this year’s focus is on the Children’s literature genre. If there is no active reading and critical culture around literature, it cannot be claimed to have progressed. Therefore, literary criticism is essential to the survival and advancement of literature.
Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism – Overview
The goal of literary criticism is to improve perspectives, interpretations, and writing techniques. Additionally, it highlights a specific environment, whether it be fictional, historical, or literary. For creative writing to evolve and flourish, literary criticism must be encouraged and supported. In 2012, Nigeria LNG Limited established a literary criticism prize as a result of these factors.
Currently, the Nigerian Prize for Literary Criticism is worth N1 million in cash. Nigerian literature is defined for this prize as writing about Nigeria and the Nigerian experience, not as writing by Nigerians. However, critical studies on the writings of the emerging Nigerian literary age are given particular attention.
