The Jerzy Giedroyc Junior Visiting Fellowships are currently inviting candidates for applications through the Institute for Human Sciences.
These fellowships are specifically aimed at scholars who are working on projects related to the interconnected history and intellectual traditions of the present-day countries of Poland, Belarus, Lithuania, and Ukraine, in acknowledgement of Jerzy Giedroyc’s impactful role as the founder of Kultura and his efforts to enhance broader understanding in this field.

- The topics that the Jerzy Giedroyc Junior Visiting Fellowships are focused on include issues related to the history, politics, and literature of Polish-Ukrainian, Polish-Belarusian, and Polish-Lithuanian relations.

The Jerzy Giedroyc Junior Visiting Fellowships welcome applicants from various academic disciplines within the humanities and social sciences.
Benefits
- The Jerzy Giedroyc Junior Visiting Fellowship is a four-month opportunity available from September 2024 to June 2025 at IWM in Vienna. Postdoctoral candidates who have completed their PhD will receive a stipend of EUR 3,000 per month, while those currently pursuing their doctoral degree will receive a stipend of EUR 2,500 per month. This stipend will cover various expenses such as accommodation, living costs, travel, health insurance, and other incidental expenses associated with their stay in Vienna.
- As part of the fellowship, Visiting Fellows will be provided with office space that includes internet access, administrative and research facilities, and other services free of charge. They will also have the opportunity to engage with the international, multidisciplinary scholarly community and participate in IWM activities. Typically, fellowships commence on the first day of the month and conclude on the last day of the month.

Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible individuals for the Jerzy Giedroyc Junior Visiting Fellowship are those who are currently pursuing a doctoral program or have completed a PhD within the humanities or social sciences within the previous four years.

- A concise letter of motivation that articulates how your project would benefit from time at the IWM, the alignment with the IWM’s mission and research, and specific research/writing objectives for the fellowship.
- Project description (maximum 550 characters).
- Project proposal (maximum 7,500 characters including spaces) encompassing
- An explanation of the project’s goals
- Situating the project within existing scholarly work Detailing the project’s methodology
- Delineating the intended work plan.
- Curriculum vitae containing a list of publications.
- Two recommendation letters from scholars familiar with your academic endeavours.
- All application materials must be submitted in the English language.
