Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 may well be back on sale in the US very soon. Remember the devices from Apple have been in the news as of late for all the wrong reasons and they were banned from being sold just recently. But with recent developments, they may be back on sale real soon in the US. It just might be that Apple might take away a key feature in the US.
Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 Back On Sale in the US
Apple as you should know is reportedly readying a workaround to the US ban on the retailing of Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 simply by removing the ability to read your blood oxygen levels.
And just in case you missed it, Apple can no longer sell the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 (the latest and best Apple Watches from the company) in the US due to a patent issue with health tech company Masimo. The dispute in question centers around the blood oxygen sensor of the watch, which Masimo has claimed infringes on its copyright.
Apple Has Proposed a Redesign of the Series 9 and Ultra 2
9to5Mac has reported that Apple has proposed a redesign of the Series 9 and Ultra 2 that would enable it to continue selling the watches without the pulse oximetry features available in it. US Customs on Friday, January 12 found out that the redesign and the sans-pulse-oximetry features of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 “falls outside the scope of the remedial orders in the ITC Investigation underlying Apple’s appeal”, as per a filing from Masimo’s legal team.
This in question simply means that the watches can once again be sold in the US, as long as they do not have those said features. The filing of Masimo’s lawyers goes on to state that “In Apple’s request under 19 C.F.R. Part 177 (in a portion it did not identify as confidential), Apple explained ‘that its Redesigned Watch Products definitively (i) do not contain pulse oximetry functionality…’”.
What Existing Owners of the Series 9 or Ultra 2 Should Be Expecting
We will hear more about the decision of the US Customs in time, but existing owners on the other hand should rest assured that if it is that you have already purchased a Series 9 or Ultra 2, then you are going to be affected by the said decision.
