Africa Dyslexia Organization is excited to unveil the Dyslexia Advocate Fellowship Program. This groundbreaking initiative is searching for individuals who are passionate and eager to make a positive and transformative impact in the lives of individuals with dyslexia in Africa.
Africa Dyslexia Advocate Fellowship 2023/2024
Their mission is to amplify awareness and advocacy about dyslexia and related learning differences across Africa. Their goal is to provide educators with the necessary resources to assist students who have various learning needs, conduct influential research on dyslexia, collaborate with educational organizations, cultivate an informed and proactive community, and empower individuals to become advocates for dyslexia.
In this inaugural cohort, Africa Dyslexia Organization have set their sights on:
- Recruiting two committed individuals from each of the 54 countries in Africa.
- Building a team of advocates to increase awareness and gather assistance for individuals with dyslexia throughout Africa.

Although the African Dyslexia Advocate Program does not provide financial remuneration, the advantages it offers are extensive and they are as follows:
- Participants will undergo a comprehensive and engaging two-year training program.

Major Responsibilities
After completing the extensive six-weekend training, as a Dyslexia Advocate, you will be assigned the following duties and tasks:
Awareness Campaigns
- Arrange and guide awareness initiatives in nearby educational institutions, community hubs, and various public platforms.
- Utilize diverse media channels to disseminate information and foster comprehension regarding dyslexia.
Educational Workshops
- Facilitate educational sessions for teachers, parents, and caregivers on effective strategies to assist individuals with dyslexia.
- Work together with nearby schools and educational organizations to introduce inclusive approaches.
Liaise with Educational Agencies
- Connect with educational authorities in your country, sharing up-to-date research and promoting curriculum modifications that support students with dyslexia.
- Acquire necessary resources, such as reading materials and software, to aid educators in providing assistance to students with different learning requirements.
Community Engagement
- Establish support networks for individuals with dyslexia and their families.
- Cultivate a sense of togetherness and create a space where experiences and tactics can be shared openly.
Continuous Learning
- Keep abreast of the most recent research, tools, and techniques pertaining to dyslexia.
- Participate in annual refresher training sessions arranged by the Africa Dyslexia Organization in order to maintain a constant and informed commitment to advocacy.
Collaborate with Media Professionals
- Collaborate with journalists, bloggers, and influencers to highlight accomplishments, obstacles, and advancements within the dyslexia community.
- Provide regular updates to the Africa Dyslexia Organization, sharing advancements made, difficulties encountered, and success stories.
- Aid in collecting data for ongoing research projects.
Mentoring
- In the role of a senior advocate, guide, and support newly recruited individuals by sharing personal experiences and proven strategies, with the goal of promoting a unified and effective approach to advocacy.
Eligibility criteria
To qualify for the program, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission of the Africa Dyslexia Organization.
- Must be between the ages of 18 and 55.
- Possess a recognized post-secondary certification or qualifications.
- Be able to commit a minimum of 2 years to the program.
- Have at least one year of verifiable volunteer experience and one year of work experience.
- Displays flexibility, independence, and a good sense of effort and humor.
- Shows self-motivation and a genuine interest in volunteer work.
- Has the capacity to absorb and learn from the project.
- Values and respects other languages, cultures, religious beliefs, and social norms.
- Possesses excellent social networking skills.
