Good news! Applications are now being accepted for the United Nations Local Pathways Fellowship 2023. This year, the famous cohort will bring together a network of 100 young thought leaders, urban planners, sustainability advocates, researchers, and innovators.
United Nations Local Pathways Fellowship 2023 Program for Youths Worldwide
These individuals come from 100 different cities across the world to advance local dialogue, collaboration, and problem-solving around the Sustainable Development Goals and to make cities and urban settlements “smart, fair, and sustainable”.
The aim of the United Nations Local Pathways Fellowship is to provide young leaders with a platform, a guiding framework for action, and connect them with leading development experts and practitioners who will:
- Provide guidance and inform their work around their projects(existing and future), and help them develop insights about local sustainable development challenges;
- Provide Leaders with a framework for engagement with local stakeholders;
- Grease mutual learning and exchange of urban solutions;
- Provide support for fellows to become local advocates that promote and advocate for dialogue and problem-solving for sustainable development.
Established by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network Youth Initiative, the Local Pathways Fellowship seeks to empower and equip young urban leaders from cities across the world with the knowledge, resources, and platform they need to advance progress on Sustainable Development Goal 11.
Encouraged to apply for this Fellowship include candidates representing any city and country in the world, however, SDSN Youth will make efforts to ensure diversity of regional representation among the fellows.

Eligibility Criteria for the United Nations Local Pathways Fellowship Program Qualification
To be approved as a Local Pathways Fellow, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- The Applicant must be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of application (exceptions may apply);
- Candidates should reside in the same city throughout the entire duration of the Fellowship
- Ideal Candidates must be fluent in English and the local language of the cities they represent (mandatory)
- Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to and a solid understanding of the concept of sustainable development;
- He or She must be able to commit a minimum of 5 to 7 hours each week on average;
- It’s compulsory that all Candidates must have a stable internet connection;
- Candidates must a professional or academic experience in development practice for a minimum of one year and in urban planning, community engagement, and advocacy.
- Candidates must have a demonstrated background in research, and development practice. Advocacy or related fields would be considered a strong asset.
