The Abdullahi Tanko Umaru Memorial Scholarship Fund is offered in honour of Mallam Abdullahi Tanko Umaru’s memory, to provide needed support to the study pursuits of indigenous students facing financial hardships.
This award offers a special chance to honor Mallam Tanko’s legacy, by providing support to deserving students like you who are committed to changing the world.
Financial Benefits of Abdullahi Tanko Umaru Memorial Scholarship
Successfully Selected Candidates for the 2024 Abdullahi Tanko Umaru Memorial Scholarship, will receive up to N100,000. This grant is offered to students in the fields of humanities and social sciences, as a way of honoring the legacy of Tanko.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Abdullahi Tanko Umaru Memorial Scholarship, applicants must are expected to meet the conditions below:
- Prospective Candidates must be in their first or second year at any tertiary institution in Nigeria
- Candidates must be enrolled in any field of humanities and social sciences (Non-STEM)
- The Scholarship Fund does not require or allocate any minimum CGPA requirement for Candidates to apply.
- Preference will be given to students who may have struggled academically due to financial constraints

Application Documents
In applying for the Abdullahi Tanko Umaru Memorial Scholarship Fund 2024, Applicants are required to respond to three (3) essay questions:
- A 500 words maximum of What your academic and career goals are and how have your friends and family, influenced and inspired them
- A 500 words maximum of What “leaving a good legacy behind” means to you
- A 500-word maximum of the Description of the problem you have solved or a problem you would like to solve. Also, explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
Timeline:
The application deadline is set for February 5, 2024.
The notification of all successful applicants will be by March 5, 2024.
