The World Cinema Fund (WCF) is pleased to announce a special funding opportunity for film projects from sub-Saharan Africa in collaboration with the German Federal Foreign Office.
All WCF submissions featuring projects from sub-Saharan Africa will automatically be considered for the special funding provided by the WCF Africa program.
The WCF’s primary objective is to facilitate film support in its designated regions and countries by fostering active collaborations between producers and directors from these areas and their German counterparts.
German film companies play a crucial role in the WCF’s structure, both culturally and economically.
Funding Details
- Maximum funding: 40,000 Euros for post-production.
- Total production costs of supported projects: Should range between 200,000 Euros and 1,400,000 Euros.
- Funding Usage: Allocated specifically for the post-production phase in the designated regions.
Who Can Apply?
Eligible applicants include:
- Film production companies from sub-Saharan Africa regions, confirming collaboration with a director from the same region/country.
- Registered film production companies based in Germany with a proven working relationship with a director from sub-Saharan Africa.
- Registered film production companies from other EU member states, having a branch or place of business in Germany and demonstrating a working relationship with a director from sub-Saharan Africa.
Application Process
- There are two submission processes annually.
- First Submission Deadline: End of February/beginning of March. Decision meetings are typically held at the end of June/beginning of July.
- Second Submission Deadline: July. Decision meetings are usually held in early November.
Required Documents for Application
- Financing information, including a financing plan and a detailed budget.
- Contracts and agreements, such as financing agreements, letters of intent, and signed co-production contracts.
- Rights transfer documentation.
- Artistic/visual concept with a mood board, casting, locations, editing, and narrative concept.
- Password-protected link to the rough cut, including English or French subtitles if the original language is neither.
