The goal of the grant is to fund sustainable and impact-oriented initiatives that improve the lives of local communities and protect the environment. The Star Social Impact Grant (SSIG) awards grants on an annual basis to support projects that align with priority areas and can achieve significant outcomes.
Star Social Impact Grant Program
The Star Social Impact Grant encourages proposals that are in line with the following areas of focus:
- Community development
- Education
- Access to basic needs and infrastructure
- Environmental protection
- Health and wellbeing
Benefit
- The grant amount for each application varies based on the project’s complexity, with a maximum limit of RM50,000.
Eligibility Requirement
Unsuccessful project applications will not be reconsidered for funding. Star Foundation advises submitting a new application for a different project or presenting new ideas.
To be eligible for a grant, applicants must:
- Be active in charities, non-profit organizations, or social enterprises that are legally and locally registered with the relevant authorities.
- Provide the Registrar of Societies (RoS), Jabatan Kebajikan Malaysia (JKM), or Companies Commission (SSM) certificate to confirm the organization’s legitimate registration status.
- Submit audited financial statements for the previous calendar year.
- Take full responsibility for preparing, managing, and submitting the application, proposed project, and budget breakdown, without acting as an intermediary.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years old when submitting the application.
- Not be permanent or contract employees of Star Media Group or its subsidiaries and related companies, along with their immediate family members (parents, spouses, children, and siblings).
- Project duration must not exceed 12 months.
- The applications are open to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and social enterprises.
Eligible Project
Star Foundation primarily supports impact-driven and sustainable projects undertaken by NGOs and social enterprises within specific focus areas.
The following criteria should be met by the projects submitted:
- Projects must correspond with one or more of Star Foundation’s focus areas, which focus on meeting the needs of underserved communities in Malaysia or promoting environmental conservation. The project should have a clear timeline and be accomplished within 12 months after receiving the grant.
- The project should demonstrate the capacity to produce measurable outcomes and impacts by the end of the project, not limited to the number of people benefiting from it.
- Ideally, the project should introduce innovative solutions to existing social issues.
- The project should possess the potential to be scaled up, expanded, or replicated across Malaysia.
