Despite posting a ₦392.7 billion net loss in Q1 2024, MTN is pushing forward with key initiatives aimed at boosting healthcare access, fostering entrepreneurship, enhancing education, and developing sports programs.

“Our purpose goes beyond just connectivity. We’re devoted to creating shared value no matter the obstacles,” stated CEO Karl Toriola.

Revitalizing Healthcare at the Grassroots In collaboration with the Private Sector Health Alliance, the MTN Nigeria Foundation is spearheading the renewal of 52 basic health clinics nationwide. This project directly aligns with a joint memorandum to advance healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.

Empowering Female Entrepreneurship Moreover, MTN has launched the second phase of its Y’ellopreneur initiative targeting women’s economic empowerment. The program will provide intensive business training to 1,000 female entrepreneurs, while extending ₦3 million loans to 150 participants to catalyze their entrepreneurial journeys.

Upskilling Instructors Fellowship Program

Upskilling Nigeria’s Educators Recognizing education’s transformative power, the Foundation is upskilling instructors through a skills-enhancement fellowship program. So far, 3,533 teachers have been onboarded to elevate student learning outcomes.

Bridging the Digital Divide To equip Nigerian youth with future-proof skills, MTN offers a “Digital Skills for Digital Jobs” web platform imparting vital digital competencies. Currently, 580 individuals are enrolled in cultivating proficiencies for the modern workforce.

Unleashing Sporting Potential Not overlooking sports development, MTN is the title sponsor of “MTN CHAMPS” – a grassroots initiative in partnership with Making of Champions. Over 7,000 young athletes from 375 schools participated in the successful inaugural season, with season two already underway and open continent-wide.

Investments in Community Upliftment

“Sustainable societies can only be achieved through a comprehensive approach tackling core societal needs like healthcare, job creation, education, and youth development,” Toriola affirmed.

While headwinds persist, MTN Nigeria’s purposeful investments in community upliftment reaffirm its commitment as an engaged corporate citizen. The company is doubling down to create shared value and positive social impact.
