Applications are now open for the Institute For Human Sciences Digital Humanism Fellowship 2024. The fellowship program aims to attract distinguished scholars from various academic disciplines to the Institute, providing them with the opportunity to conduct advanced research on all aspects of the networked society.

This includes the participation of a Senior Visiting Fellow for a one-month fellowship during each semester, as well as two Junior Visiting Fellows who come to the Institute in the same period. The Junior Visiting Fellows have the chance to conduct their research projects and engage in enhanced collaboration and discussions with the Senior Visiting Fellows.

Candidates applying for the Junior Visiting Fellowships are expected to focus their research on the intersection of digitalization with societal, economic, and geopolitical dimensions, as well as other pertinent areas within the humanities and social sciences.

In the autumn of 2024, two fellows will be selected to spend a consecutive three-month period at the Institute. Generally, the fellowship duration starts on the first day of the month and concludes on the last day of the month.

Benefits

  • Postdoctoral candidates, who have completed their PhD by the fellowship application deadline, will be granted a monthly stipend of EUR 3,000. This amount will cover accommodation, living expenses, travel, health insurance, and any additional costs associated with their stay in Vienna.
  • Candidates who are currently pursuing their doctoral degree will receive a monthly stipend of EUR 2,500. To support their accommodation, living expenses, travel, health insurance, and other incidental costs during their time in Vienna.
  • Moreover, the IWM will provide the fellows with office space that includes Internet access, as well as access to research and administrative facilities within the institute. Also, they will be offered complimentary daily lunches and access to other services provided by the institute.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Senior Visiting Fellowships are exclusively offered through invitation.
  • To be eligible for the Junior Visiting Fellowship, applicants must either be currently pursuing their doctoral degree or have completed their PhD within the last four years at the time of application.

  • To apply for the IWM fellowship, it is necessary to complete and submit the online application form provided by the institute. Applications submitted via email will not be taken into consideration.
  • The following are the application materials that are needed:
  • An up-to-date resume that includes a publication list is required.
  • A concise letter of motivation that explains how the project would benefit from being at the IWM. Its connection to the institute’s mission and research, and specific research or writing goals during the fellowship.
