The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a multistakeholder group with a non-profit mission. The group is responsible for coordinating and maintaining critical databases related to Internet namespaces and numerical spaces, ICANN ensures the stable and secure operation of the Internet.

This involves the technical maintenance of central Internet address pools and DNS root zone registries, a responsibility held pursuant to the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) function contract.

The ICANN Fellowship Program covers the cost of the lowest fare available economy airfare. In addition, ICANN takes care of the accommodation, booking and paying for a standard room on behalf of the fellow.

Eligibility Criteria for the ICANN Fellowship Programme

ICANN welcomes candidates from all regions and sectors. To qualify for this Fellowship;

  • Participants must be at least 21 years old and share an interest or engagement in ICANN’s work, spanning policy building, the operation of the Domain Name System, and the security and stability of the global internet.
  • Prospective fellows must complete ICANN Learn course(s), which demonstrates a commitment to enhancing their knowledge.
  • Fellows should not be involved in or associated with other ICANN-supported travel programs at the time of selection.
  • Policy Forum applicants, a specific category, must have successfully completed a prior ICANN Fellowship.

Fellows Responsibilities and Engagements

The expectations placed on fellowship recipients go beyond mere participation. Participants are expected to:

  • Engage in the mentoring process, completing additional required ICANN Learn courses, and active attendance at the ICANN Public Meeting.
  • Networking with program alumni and community members, alongside the completion of a post-meeting survey, further solidifies the commitment expected from fellows.

Can a separate Information be sent to ICANN if I cannot provide it early for the application?

You can only use the online application system to apply for an ICANN Fellowship. If need be, an applicant may submit additional documentation as proof of their engagement in ICANN within the application portal.

Can I submit my application in any language?

The online application form must be written in English only. Applicants whose first language is not English should translate their responses into English for the application.

How many times can I receive Fellowship Program support?

Participants can only receive a fellowship three times. All the Second and third-time fellows must prove their ICANN involvement and engagement in one of the ICANN communities.
