Program Overview

The selected book should effectively contribute to the enhancement of democratic governance by exploring the interconnections between media, politics, and public policy. Previous winners have covered various subjects such as political journalism, the history of news, news-related polarization, internet freedom, local news, and digital democracy.

Only books pertaining to the theme of media and politics will be considered for this award. Any submissions outside of this subject area will not be eligible. The Goldsmith Awards Program is generously supported through an annual grant from the Goldsmith Fund of the Greenfield Foundation. The program is expertly administered by the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

Prize:

  • The winner in each category will receive a prize of $5,000.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Published entries for the 2024 Goldsmith Book Prize must fall within the time frame of January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023.
  • Books that do not fit into the specified category are not eligible for an award and will not be evaluated by the committee.
  • Submissions must be in English, and edited volumes will not be considered.
