Applications are now open for the HEVA Fund/Alliance Française Nairobi Creation Africa Kenya Grant 2023. The HEVA Fund has collaborated with Alliance Française Nairobi to provide assistance to Kenyan artists, specifically in the fields of music, performing arts, and cinema, for the purpose of touring their high-quality original projects.

These productions will be showcased across the Creative Arts Spaces in Kenya (CASiK) network, which includes performing arts venues in five different Kenyan counties: Kisumu, Nakuru, Nairobi, Mombasa, and Lamu. The project is made possible through the support of the French Embassy in Kenya and the French Government’s Creation Africa program.

Program Overview

The fund grants will support creative individuals, groups, and organizations in improving their original productions to be showcased in a minimum of three fully equipped cultural venues within the CASIK network.

Applicants from various artistic fields like Theatre, Film, Live Music (Vocal, Instrumental, Deejaying), Spoken word, Poetry, Storytelling, Dialogue, Dance, Comedy, Magic, Puppetry/ Pantomime, Multimedia, and Transdisciplinary arts are eligible to apply.

The projects that receive funding through this program must be original works that explore African social, cultural, and/or political themes and utilize strategies to encourage local communities to engage with cultural spaces.

Worth of this Grant:

  • The grant program offers funding opportunities of up to 15,000 euros.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be residents and actively working in Kenya.
  • Eligibility is limited to individuals or groups involved in the performing or creative arts industry within Kenya.
  • Supported value chains include Theatre, Film, Live Music (Vocal, Instrumental, Deejaying), Spoken word, Poetry, Storytelling, Dialogue, Dance, Comedy, Magic, Puppetry/ Pantomime, and Multimedia/transdisciplinary arts.
  • Proposed projects should demonstrate connections to African culture and/or history, presenting evidence and themes that align with these aspects.
  • Applicants must have pre-ideated projects that are currently in the execution phase.

Application Review Process

The review process for the Goldsmith Book Prize consists of five stages, which take place after the call for applications is closed:

  • Initial sieve: Initially, all received applications are reviewed to ensure they meet the basic eligibility criteria and submission requirements.
  • Selection panel shortlisting: The selection panel then narrows down the pool of applicants based on predetermined criteria, selecting the most promising candidates for further consideration.
  • Pitch stage: Shortlisted applicants have the opportunity to present their project proposals to the selection panel, where they can share their creative vision and the potential impact of their project.
  • Due diligence: During this phase, all shortlisted candidates undergo evaluation, which includes a thorough review of their proposed project plans, budgets, timelines, and the overall feasibility of their ideas.
  • Contracting: Successful applicants enter a contractual agreement with the project partners in this final stage.
