You can now back up your Samsung Galaxy phone for free for one month. The temporary cloud backup service of Samsung allows you to save files in the cloud, thus making it very much easy to switch to a new device
Back Up Your Samsung Galaxy Phone For Free
Samsung now wants to make it even easier to transfer data to a new device and phone. As long as it is that you are switching to a new Galaxy phone, that is.
The Temporary Cloud Backup service of the company, which Samsung recently announced on Thursday will reportedly be launching worldwide, allows users of a Galaxy device to back up files, apps, photos, and many other data in Samsung Cloud for free temporarily.
The service in question should help to facilitate switching to a new Galaxy phone when upgrading your device, which is very much likely an effort by the company to keep existing Galaxy users from moving to the iPhone or any other Android device. The full global rollout in question will start this very fall kicking things off with the Galaxy S and Z series phones in Korea.
Samsung has stated that there is no data storage limit, but the sizes of files will be capped at 100GB. Data that is stored for 30 days, and Samsung has said that users will be notified when that time limit draws closer. A Samsung account is however required.
How the Feature Works
The feature in question could make it very easy to back up your data when purchasing a new phone. Wireless carriers as well as firms like Samsung incentivize trade-ins heavily simply by offering steep discounts on new phones in exchange for your present device. That simply means that you must back up your device just before switching to your new one in order to avoid losing your photos, videos, apps as well as other files.
Similar Offerings from Other Competitors of Samsung
Apple on the other hand has a very much similar offering. It lets new iPhone and iPad shoppers to back up their devices for 21 days temporarily. You can also request additional time in the event that a new device doesn’t arrive within that time frame.
This very feature of Samsung will also be available in Maintenance Mode. This is a special mode that blocks the access to personal information during repairs. And as such, owners of Galaxy devices will be able to back up their devices temporarily when they are turning it in for repair as a precautionary measure.
When Will the Feature Launch
The reported launch comes as the holiday season draws closer, which is normally a very busy time for the electronics industry. It also makes sense for Samsung to launch such a feature like this just ahead of its next flagship Galaxy S launch, which you know typically, occurs in Q1 of the year.
