The YALI RLC West Africa invites applications for its Emerging Leaders Program 2024 – Online Cohort 47. They are seeking enthusiastic young individuals who are eager to embrace leadership and contribute to the positive transformation of their respective countries.

YALI RLC West Africa Emerging Leaders Program

Initiated by the United States government, the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is dedicated to investing in the development of the next generation of African leaders.

The program spans 17 weeks and comprises four phases, including a 5-week coursework phase either in-person or online. The remaining 12 weeks involve a mentorship program, internship or community service, and a report writing period.

Program tracks

  1. Business and Entrepreneurship: Tailored for emerging or aspiring entrepreneurs focusing on leadership roles within the private sector or building business ventures in Africa.
  2. Civil Society Management: Oriented towards those engaged or aspiring to be involved in civic activities, serving the public through NGOs, community-based organizations, or volunteerism.
  3. Public Policy and Management: Customized for individuals working or aspiring to work in government, regional organizations, international organizations, or think tanks.

Benefits of the program

  • Participants will receive a certificate and become members of the YALI Alumni.
  • Leadership training will be provided to prepare participants for leadership roles in their respective fields.

Eligibility

The YALI RLC West Africa seeks merit-based applications from young West African leaders who:

  • Are 18 to 35 years old at the time of application.
  • Are citizens and residents of Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, or Burkina Faso?
  • Are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
  • Are eligible for a visa to Ghana.
  • Are proficient in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking).

Selection criteria

Applicants will be evaluated based on:

  • Demonstrated leadership in public service, business and entrepreneurship, or civic engagement.
  • Active involvement in public or community service, volunteerism, or mentorship.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in diverse groups and respect others’ opinions.
  • Strong social and communication skills.
  • Energetic, positive attitude.
  • Knowledge, interest, and professional experience in the chosen sector/track.
  • Commitment to applying leadership skills for the benefit of their country and community post-program.
