World Bank Robert S. McNamara Fellowship Program

World Bank Robert S. McNamara Fellowship Program(RSMFP)

The Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program (RSMFP) at the World Bank connects emerging development economics researchers from developing countries with World Bank research economists, offering them unique opportunities to participate in rigorous, policy-focused research within the World Bank’s Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC).

Through collaboration with World Bank DEC researchers and their academic partners from renowned universities, fellows will gain insights into current research standards, acquire new econometric skills, and connect with leading researchers in their field. They will have a unique opportunity to take part in rigorous, policy-relevant research and broaden their perspective on potential development issues and how their research can address challenges in the developing world.

Key Program Features

  • Work Experience: Fellows will be involved in World Bank projects, working closely with World Bank DEC researchers. They will also receive training in advanced research techniques and technologies and have the opportunity to collaborate with World Bank operations. Depending on the projects, fellows may contribute to DEC’s published work, co-author with DEC researchers, participate in field missions, or directly engage with World Bank clients.
  • Skill Development: Fellows will undergo a one-week technical orientation at the beginning of the program, which includes training on reproducible research methods. Throughout the program, they will take part in hands-on training and seminars led by leading economists to develop their skills further. By working alongside DEC economists, fellows will improve their ability to identify, study, and write about significant development policy issues.
  • Research Dissemination: Fellows will be encouraged to write a blog based on their fellowship research within DEC. This presents an opportunity to showcase their research and contribute to discussions on development policy. The top 4 blogs will be featured each year on DEC’s Let’s Talk Development blog.
