Musk announced on his Twitter / X account on Wednesday that in an upcoming release, X will overlay the title in the upper portion of the image on a URL card.

Musk’s Swift Response to Backlash Over Twitter / X’s Headline Previews Removal

Less than two hours after Musk unintentionally showcased the diminished functionality resulting from Twitter / X’s removal of headline previews, the announcement was made. Musk shared an article about OpenAI, expressing his concern with a simple “Extremely concerning!” statement, which became nonsensical without the link’s context.

It’s not clear if this, or Musk’s other unclear link posts, is connected to his choice to reintroduce article headlines. Given his tendency to make impromptu changes at Twitter / X, it can’t be completely ruled out.

Twitter / X users promptly started mocking Musk for bringing back a feature that many believed he shouldn’t have randomly removed in the first place.

In response, Musk promptly emphasized that his headline previews will differ from the previous ones, appearing on the article’s image rather than below it.

Musk wrote, “The title will be in the image overlaid at the top, with the URL overlaid at the bottom, as it is now – no extra vertical pixels used. I hate those giant, ugly URL cards.

Certainly, one could argue that if Musk intended to redesign Twitter / X’s headline previews, it would have been more sensible to do so directly instead of eliminating them entirely initially. The initial removal of link headlines significantly affected Twitter / X’s accessibility, making the platform more challenging to navigate for users of assistive technology.
